Golf – Stiff fingers after 9 holes (arthritis?)
I played golf yesterday with some good friends at Dynasty Golf & Country Club located in Banglen, Nakhon Pathom province.
When you arrive at this golf course most are surprised by the lack of a proper clubhouse – the actual entrance looks like the greenkeeper’s house. The locker rooms are rather basic too, but don’t waste any time there and get out to the course, it’s a decent 18 and was in reasonable condition.
The previous few times I’ve played here I’ve had some very good fortune, getting eagles in both my previous rounds here, but with my recent play I had very low expectations of scoring well. So it was a pleasant surprise when after eight holes I found myself only 1 over and it should have been better – I had missed five birdie chances within 20 feet.
On the 9th my fingers were stiffening up a bit… hit a simple tee shot 40 yards left into water and the round went downhill from there.
It was a hot day – 8am tee off, so perhaps I was a little dehydrated (should have passed on the beer), it got worse as the round went on so I did a little research into remedies.
Here are the results of my web research:
Equipment:
- Iron that has a vibration dampening insert. I have also used
- Grip – Lamkin Stingfree Crosslines – Iomic – Winn Master Wrap -Lamkin Torsion Tour Series Oversize -Avon Chamois -Golf Pride DD2
- Bionic glove. Reduces your grip pressure naturally and the pads further absorb any unwanted vibration.
- Gloves on both hands
- Graphite shafts
- Don’t practice on mats or use special mats like these – http://www.fiberbuilt.com/golf/index.htm
Diet
- Omega 3 Oils
- Glucosomine sulfate
- Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
- Chondroitin Sulphate
- Turmeric
- Zyflamend (Combination of various natural remedies)
- Boswelia
- Capzasin-P – (Chilli pepper derived substance that seems to work by dulling nerves)
- Gingerflex
Medicine
I’m already taking fish oil supplements on a daily basis. So I think for starters I’ll get some new grips (they are due for a change) and look at Glucosamine with MSM.
Investigating natural sources of these substances suggests MSM occurs in eggs.
Glucosamine occurs in the hard shells of shellfish as well as the gristle in beef and the small bones in fish. Now I’ve always been a little bit of a fussy eater and avoided gristle, bones and the like – so in future I will start ’sucking the gristle’ more and hope it has positive health benefits!
Bring on those eagles in 2010!
