Thai Website Design

Normally visiting a Thai website is an assault on my senses, it drives me crazy seeing the number of ads and the tiny unreadable fonts, it’s no wonder to me that most internet users over here are under 30, anyone older needs to whip out their magnifying glass to find what they are looking for!

Website design is a tough field.

It’s very accessible, so most people can find a free tool to use to produce a website. Unfortunately, most of these websites suck.

Making a good website requires a combination of many different skills, it truly is a multidisciplinary field.

Let’s make a quick list:

From the graphic design, to the HTML and CSS programming, and if you want to do anything really cool, JavaScript and/or Flash is pretty mandatory.

In addition you will want to ensure your page ranks well on Google and their ilk so you get more visitors. You’ll want it to be easy to use, and you probably want to update your site quickly and easily without dabbling in code. A content management system can help out here, they are usually written in PHP, but you get them in all flavours (ASP, Java, etc).

Finally, you’ll probably want to secure your site against script kiddies and other l33t hax0rs that may enjoy leaving their graffiti style mark on your website. So you’ll need a basic understanding of security, and some administration skills, probably UNIX based, unless you happen to be a Microsoft lover.
