Thai word(s) of the day No. 4 – Pom hen Khun, Ka hen jao ( “I see you” )

I see you - ka hen jao

I was surprised to see Avatar on Thai TV yesterday evening – first time I watched it in Thai language, so I was very interested in seeing how they translated “I see you”

I thought it would be simply Chan Hen Khun (female) or Pom hen khun (male) but in fact they used the very old formal translation

I see you – Pom hen Khun (male) informal, Ka hen jao (male formal old fashioned)

Being an old fashioned kind of guy – and especially according to my girlfriend a lover of all things old (I drive a classic Volvo 940) I enjoyed learning the formal forms of this – it’s just more romantic wouldn’t you say?
